Our campaigns

GSF works to promote and defend the interests of shippers in world trade and advance wider understanding of the issues faced by businesses in keeping international supply chains flowing.

Currently active

GSF is speaking up for shippers on a wide range of current issues and developments across international trade and logistics. These are the issues we are currently working on:

Container shipping market crisis

Shippers are facing a crisis in the global container shipping market with shipping rates climbing to record levels, a chronic shortage of ships and containers to meet a surge in demand, and poor reliability of services that are operating.

Container shipping competition law reform

GSF is campaigning for the reform of competition laws as applied to the container shipping sector.

Packing of goods in cargo transport units

GSF is working to raise awareness of the need for high standards in the packing of goods in freight containers, and other transport units.

Avoiding pest contamination of containers and cargoes

The transfer of invasive pests between countries by inadvertent contamination of freight containers and their cargoes is now recognised by many governments as a serious risk

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships

International shipping contributes about 3 per cent of total man-made emissions and is under intense pressure from some national governments to reduce these emissions.

Forward agenda

GSF monitors international regulatory and technological developments for challenges and opportunities that could affect shippers and the international movement of their goods. These are the emerging issues we see:

Decarbonisation on international logistics

How will the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions affect shippers and change the carbon footprint of international trade

Digitalisation of international trade

Its more than just paperless-trade, it’s exporting and importing from your mobile phone!
