Media Centre

Welcome to GSF’s Media Centre.

Our aim is to help journalists, broadcasters and commentators understand and interpret events and developments in international trade and logistics.

Introduction

We see the world through the eyes of shippers – the businesses that own the cargo moving in international trade and who use the services of shipping lines, airlines, railways and road hauliers to move goods from where they are made or grown to where they are needed and consumed.

Global shippers are the world’s manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers who import and export commodities, raw materials, semi-finished goods and finished products. They are the buyers and sellers of goods – the parties that make international trade happen and keep the world economy growing.

Shippers often work through freight forwarders and customs brokers and use the services of agents and representatives in different countries. Shippers ultimately pay the costs of transport, storage and distribution provided by carriers and logistics providers. Shippers want goods delivered on time, at an agreed price, in perfect condition and moved in ways that are safe and environmentally sustainable.

In championing the views of shippers, GSF values facts and evidence, accuracy and precision, open-mindedness and respect for others’ views.

Shippers own the stuff that others carry, not the means of transporting it, so let’s talk.
